Reconstruction of the Canteen and Library of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague
The project to modernize the canteen at the Czech University of Life Sciences (CZU) in Prague will not only enhance the current dining services but also integrate the university library. The goal is to create a multifunctional space that will become a new campus hub, offering a wide range of services and activities for both students and staff.
The ground floor will house the welcome center, a restaurant, a café, a university shop, and a gallery, creating a welcoming and vibrant area for socializing and leisure activities. The second floor will serve as a modern canteen with a capacity of 1,000 seats, featuring a flexible layout and an innovative food dispensing system that will streamline and speed up the dining process. The third floor will accommodate the university library, with various types of study rooms, consultation spaces, meeting areas, and spots for individual or team work. The library will also include a space for lectures, workshops, and other academic and social events.
A rooftop terrace will be developed, featuring greenery and offering views of the campus, providing students and staff with a peaceful area for relaxation and informal meetings. The basement will house technical and storage spaces to ensure the smooth operation of the entire facility.
A key element of the design is the new atrium, which will visually connect all floors and ensure plenty of natural light. The building’s open concept encourages interaction between students and faculty, fostering an inspiring environment for both education and leisure activities. The renovation will thus provide a modern, functional, and pleasant environment for the entire university community.
