B - Braun Café

The aim of the project was to restore the original elegance and sophistication of the space. The brass portal with an illuminated sign was reinstated, and views of the street from both floors were reopened. In part of the interior, the sightline between the ground floor and the upper level was restored, reviving the original concept of a two-story space. Removing interior partitions added in the 1990s unveiled a view of the courtyard, where a small terrace for summer seating was created under the shade of mature trees.

The centerpiece of the interior is a spiral glass staircase, with steps supported by a central helical column and an outer railing functioning as a spatial truss, suspended from the ceiling at three points. The color scheme of the space is based on a striking contrast of black and white, complemented by brown maple veneer on tables and upholstery on built-in benches. Wall graphics by Studio Najbrt subtly showcase selected products from B. Braun, adding originality to the interior and connecting it with the medical theme.

This project received an honorable mention in the Interior category at the 18th annual Grand Prix of Architects 2011 – National Architecture Award.
