Auditorium Reconstruction UTB

The auditorium’s reconstruction aimed to resolve its original shortcomings, modernize its technical equipment, and preserve existing structures where possible. Poor visibility, particularly from side seats, was addressed by designing a new, partially elliptical shape that ensures clear views of the stage and screen from every seat. This organic design is echoed in the ceiling, composed of six slanted wave-like panels above the seating area and a "canopy" over the stage. These elements optimize sound distribution, significantly improving acoustics. Vertical slits in the ceiling house ventilation outlets and LED lighting, providing indirect illumination. Walls are lined with perforated acoustic panels, enhancing both acoustics and the space’s organic rhythm. Motorized vertical lamellae in front of windows can either darken the hall or allow sunlight to flood the interior.

The color palette features muted pastel gray walls, a dark gray floor, and a white ceiling, contrasted by bold university red-orange seating. The foyer’s low ceiling was reimagined with wave-shaped metal acoustic slats, designed to utilize the space between load-bearing beams. Linear LED lights highlight the wave peaks, extending onto walls around the backstage. Light colors dominate the foyer, with a white granite floor, white metal slats, and light HPL wall cladding, contrasted by vibrant yellow chairs and an orange cloakroom. The redesign blends functionality and aesthetics, creating a cohesive and dynamic space.
