Reconstruction

This family home in Žižkov may seem unassuming at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it reveals significant transformations. The main entrance, with its white facade and red door featuring a porthole window, hints at the contrasting elements of lightness and transparency that define the interior. Structural changes involved the removal of internal walls, allowing for the creation of an open living area on the ground floor, which flows into the kitchen and expands into a winter garden that enhances the interior’s spaciousness and strengthens its connection to the exterior. Large-format windows provide expansive views of the garden, filling the home with natural light and blending the interior with nature. The predominantly white interior is punctuated by red accents, enlivening the neutral palette of beige, brown, and cream tones.

A striking feature of the home is the spiral staircase with red wooden steps that fulfill the owner’s desire for visual lightness and nighttime illumination. The staircase, suspended by a tensile system, incorporates sleek metal elements that frame each step, creating a rhythmic geometric design. The red color of the steps draws attention, adding vibrancy to the bright space, while the minimalist metal railing ensures the overall design remains airy and light. Natural light streaming through the glass ceiling further accentuates the openness of the space.

The winter garden seamlessly extends from the living area, increasing the volume of the interior and reinforcing its open-plan concept. Glass doors and lacquered built-in cabinets highlight the themes of transparency and flow between zones. Details like the transparent coffee table contribute to the airy atmosphere, while the suspended light fixture introduces a touch of extravagance. The central lighting, installed within a suspended ramp, gives the room an added sense of grandeur and modernity. A portrait of the owner by Czech-French artist Alexandra Paříková and the organically shaped Up 5 chair by Gaetano Pesce complete the cosmopolitan aesthetic of the home. In the kitchen, the recurring red and white elements create harmony with the overall design while maintaining a strong connection to the exterior. The kitchen is divided into two sections – a hygienic white counter complemented by a dark brown unit, bringing warmth and natural tones to the interior. The extractor fan is elegantly hidden within the hanging cabinets, contributing to the clean and minimalist aesthetic of the kitchen.

The upper floor features a simple, bright bedroom where white again dominates, with red accents bringing vitality to the otherwise serene space. The balcony has been replaced with a French window, offering a view of the garden and further strengthening the connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. This project exemplifies a modern minimalist approach, focusing on functionality, aesthetics, and the harmonious relationship between the home and its surroundings.

Designing this house was about creating a space where every detail tells its own story. The red doors and white facade are just the beginning – inside you’ll find a space that not only connects the interior with the exterior but also reflects a balance between lightness and striking contrasts.
