Library Building Tomas Bata University
The University Center in Zlín is a modern building that combines the rectorate headquarters and the university library, creating an architecturally distinctive and functional complex. The architectural design features two segmented sections linked by a spacious glass atrium and two prominent communication towers that serve as vertical connectors. The building comprises five above-ground and two underground floors, complemented by a rooftop terrace.
The university library offers 504 study spaces, individual study rooms, relaxation areas, and modern facilities. The rectorate provides 80 workspaces and administrative offices, with both sections connected by multifunctional spaces such as a lecture hall with a capacity of 164 seats, seminar rooms, a restaurant with a private lounge, a café, and shared facilities. The library’s southern facade is equipped with glass screens featuring white dot patterns to reduce glare, while the northern facade utilizes vertical elements to shield against lateral light. The interior features bright, open spaces with extensive use of glass partitions, seamlessly connecting offices, the library, and communal areas.
The library's interior is designed in warm tones of yellow and red, while the rectorate's spaces feature cooler shades of blue and violet. The neutral color palette of the main areas is accentuated by contrasting highlights, creating a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere.
