Bus Stop

The bus shelter on the Lesná housing estate in Brno, known as the "Kaplický Octopus," was created as a tribute to the late architect Jan Kaplický and his iconic design for the National Library in Prague. Following heated debates surrounding the realization of the library project, PepsiCo organized a competition to design a bus shelter near Brno. The competition was won by law student Martin Felgr, who envisioned a miniature octopus as a symbolic reminder of the unresolved battle over the original design.

The project’s realization was entrusted to the AI-DESIGN studio, which transformed the concept into a functional and aesthetically valuable structure. The shelter has a footprint of 7 x 7 meters, a height of approximately 4 meters, and features an organically shaped fiberglass shell mounted on a glass-cement base. This unique design not only provides passengers with protection from adverse weather but also enhances the public space with its distinctive aesthetic appeal.

The "Kaplický Octopus" in Lesná seamlessly blends functionality and art, bringing a striking architectural identity to the urban environment while honoring one of the most prominent Czech architects.
